Shawn Carty has served as Franklin & Marshall Director of Athletic Facilities, Operations, and Recreation since arriving in Lancaster in 2003. He oversees the maintenance and use of all of Franklin & Marshall’s athletic facilities, operations and assets.

Prior to his arrival in Lancaster, Carty spent four years at the University of Pennsylvania. He was hired in 1999 as the Quakers’ ticket manager. He remained in that position for two years before moving into Facilities and Operations as the scheduling coordinator, and then was promoted to Associate Director of Facilities.

While he is versed in running a Division I operation, Carty is intimately familiar with the Division III experience. He played four years of Baseball at Kenyon College, where he studied Economics. He served as an assistant baseball coach and intramural director at Kenyon for the 1994-1995 academic year before taking a post at a law firm in Philadelphia. He then earned his M. Ed. at Temple University while working as a graduate assistant in the Recreation Department. 

From Temple, Carty moved on to Erie, Pa., joining the minor league Erie Sea Wolves franchise as the squad’s ticket manager. He remained at that post until joining the staff at Penn. In his final two years in Philadelphia, Carty remained active in an adult baseball league.

Instead of chasing fly balls, Carty now runs down his three children with his wife of 11 years. He also serves as a Member of the Board for the New School of Lancaster.
