Steve Peed came to Franklin & Marshall late in the fall of 2006 as the interim Sports Information Director. He was named the Director of Athletic Communications in the spring of 2007. Since his arrival, Peed has overseen the reconstruction of the athletics record books, moving them into a digital format, revamped the athletics web site and formed Franklin & Marshall’s video streaming partnerships. His focus on technology and web services has kept F&M on the cutting edge in the world of sports information.
In 2010, Peed co-led the focus group that developed the new
Diplomats identity. He also led the team that relaunched
GoDiplomats.com on the PrestoSports Network and partnered with
Stretch Internet to provide video and live stats. It was the
college's second partnership in streaming 20 of the department's 28
sports. In addition to leading F&M's athletic communications
efforts, Peed also oversees compliance efforts and coordinates NCAA
Championships for the College.
Peed spent five years (2001-2006) as the Director of Sports
Information at McDaniel College (formerly Western Maryland
College). He assumed the post in August following his graduation
from the school having served one year as a student-worker. In his
time in Westminster, he established a complete electronic database
of athletic records and shepherded in the era of Internet
broadcasting, taking WTTR AM 1470’s radio feed to the
web.
As a student-athlete at Western Maryland, Peed studied Political
Science and Communications and was a member of four Centennial
Conference Championship teams (three in football, one in
wrestling). As a junior, he interned in the Maryland General
Assembly and was hired for each of the next two legislative
sessions by the Washington County Delegation Chairman.
Peed earned a Master of Science in Sport Management at Drexel
University in 2010. His thesis proved a positive statistical
correlation between athletic expenditure and athletic success in
NCAA Division III and was presented at the 2011 College Sports
Reasearch Institute (CSRI) convention at the University of North
Carolina. It was one of four of his entries presented at the
conference.
Peed is the grandson of the late Lawrence H. Roney, '50, and great nephew of Roger E. Roney '52, a swimmer under F&M's legendary coach, George McGinness. He resides in Lancaster with his wife, Courtney, an environmental educator in Baltimore County, Maryland.
