Spring 2015 Fitness Class Schedule


BodyFit

Looking for a whole body workout that improves your strength, endurance, and sculpts your body? Come out and treat your body to a great workout! BodyFit is an explosion of cross-training techniques pulled from a variety of training disciplines. It maximizes strength and cardio by incorporating functional strengthening, agility, plyometrics, kickboxing, and various other training styles. No two classes are alike! This class will take your own personal fitness to the next level. BodyFit is designed for all fitness levels and is structured with cueing and instruction to challenge beginners as well as more advanced exercisers.

Time: Mondays, 6:15 – 7:15 pm; starting 2/2/15

Location: Woods Room

Cost: $10 for a single class; $7 per class when you prepay for 4 or more classes

What to bring: Please bring a large mat/towel, water, and a small towel because you will sweat!

Pilates

Pilates is a method of body conditioning that combines stretching and strengthening exercises to tone muscles, improve posture and increase flexibility by training your mind and body to work together. This will be a beginner/intermediate class that will teach you the basic concepts of the Pilates method and a series of controlled movements to strengthen your core muscles: abs, back, hips and thighs.  

Most movements are done on the floor, so bring a mat and dress comfortably in yoga pants, bike shorts, etc.

When: Mondays, 5:00 – 6:00 pm; classes start on 1/26 and run for 10 weeks.  There will be no class on March 16th.

Basic Power Yoga 2

Mondays 5:00 – 5:50 p.m., January 26 – April 20

Woods Room, ASFC

Description: A basic power yoga class with poses that build strength, stamina, flexibility, and balance. Mostly standing sequences, followed by seated postures, arm balances, inversions, and guided relaxation. Modifications are shown for all ability levels. The course covers basic concepts in yoga philosophy. Spring 2015 lessons will focus on how the asanas relate to Indian mythology.

This class is limited to 50 participants and has an assistant (a second yoga instructor who helps each participant individually with their alignment during class).

Requirements: No experience necessary. This class is a continuation of Basic Power 1, but new students are welcome and will do fine. Yoga mat required.

Instructor: Jane Marie Clipman has been practicing yoga for 26 years and is certified through the Himalayan Institute.

$55 for 12 classes. This class will fill. Come to registration to reserve your spot.

Advanced Power Yoga

Wednesdays 5:00 – 5:50 p.m., January 28 – April 22

Woods Room, ASFC

Description: An advanced vinyasa class with fast-paced sequences of very challenging standing poses, arm balances, and inversions called out in Sanskrit. The course includes deeper teachings in yoga philosophy. Spring 2015 lessons will focus on how the asanas relate to Indian mythology.

Requirements: Prior experience (good alignment in basic poses), strength (can do chaturanga fully), flexibility (can touch toes), balance, stamina, and self-awareness required. Yoga mat required.

Instructor: Jane Marie Clipman has been practicing yoga for 26 years, is certified through the Himalayan Institute, and has attended trainings with Jivamukti, Shiva Rea, and Seane Corn.

Gentle Yoga

Mondays 12:05-12:55p.m., January 26 – April 20

ROS 113 - Hooper Dance Studio (This location pending approval, confirm or change on 1/19)

Description: A relaxing Hatha yoga class with easy, mostly seated postures designed to increase flexibility, relieve muscle tension, and reduce stress. Includes breathing exercises, meditation, and guided relaxation. The course covers basic concepts in yoga philosophy. Spring 2015 lessons will focus on how the asanas relate to Indian mythology.

Requirements: No experience needed. Good for people with injuries or limited flexibility. Yoga mat required.

Instructor: Jane Marie Clipman has been practicing yoga for 26 years and is certified through the Himalayan Institute.

Registration: Mon, 1/19, 12-1p.m., ROS 113, or 1/19 or 1/21, 5:00-5:30pm, Woods Room

$55 for 12 classes or $39 for any 6 classes (6-pack available only for noontime classes)
