Diplomats Return Fords' Favor
LANCASTER, Pa. – Bill Murray’s two run blast in the
second inning led the way for Franklin & Marshall as the
Diplomats defeated Haverford 6-2 in Centennial Conference (CC)
baseball action. The Diplomats (16-10-1, 9-3 CC) avenged a 10-2
loss from yesterday, splitting the season series with the Fords
(16-11-1, 9-3 CC).
Nick Rolnick got things started in second frame, hitting a double down the left field line. Murray’s blast to left center one batter later put F&M up 2-0. Blue Wells singled in Eric Bornstein for the third run of the inning.
The Diplomats added two more runs in the third. Andrew Hanson led off with a double down the left field line. Shea Moriarty added a double of his own, plating Hanson. Rolnick singled two batters later, scoring Moriarty, giving the Diplomats a 5-0 lead. Moriarty homered in the seventh for F&M’s sixth run of the game.
The Fords got on the board in fifth when Jay Chaplin’s double scored Louis Derosa from second. Haverford added one more run on Dean Laganosky RBI single.
F&M out hit the Fords 16-9, including five that went for extra bases. Murray, Rolnick and Wells all went 3-for-4, combining for two runs. Moriarty was 2-for-5, driving in and scoring two runs.
Nick Markel improved to 4-1 on the year, striking out four and issuing just one walk. He allowed two runs in eight innings. Markel, with the help of the defense, left 10 runners stranded on base throughout the game.
Collin Sarafin picked up the loss, dropping his record to 4-2. He gave up all six runs and struck out four in his eight innings of work.
F&M returns to action tomorrow in a CC doubleheader with Swarthmore. The first game is slated to start at 12:30 pm. All seniors will be honored at the game.
