Diplomats Sweep Garnet
LANCASTER, Pa. - Four players scored in double-figures as # 17 Franklin & Marshall defeated Swarthmore 77-47 in a Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball game Saturday afternoon. The win completes the season sweep of the Garnet as F&M improved to 16-3 (10-2 CC). Swarthmore fell to 5-14 (4-8 CC).
The game started out slow as both team battled for buckets. At 12:54 with the score showing 12-8 in favor F&M, the Diplomats pulled away outscoring the Garnet 14-6 to end the half. F&M took a 30-14 edge into the break.
F&M picked up where it left off in the first stanza, jumping out to a 21-point, 38-17, lead three minutes into the second period. The Garnet answered scoring eight unanswered point to cut the deficit to 13 points, but that was as close as they would get. The Diplomats took over from there limiting the Garnet to 12 points over the final 15 minutes.
James McNally scored a team-high 19 points and finished with his sixth double-double of the year collecting 11 rebounds. Mike Baker and Hayk Gyokchyan both finished with 12 points apiece. Georgio Milligan added 10 points and Anthony Brooks had nine points on a 7-for-8 performance from the line.
Freshmen forward Will Gates scored a game-high 22 points for the Garnet. Gates shot 60% from the floor and went 4-for-5 from behind the arc.
Franklin & Marshall returns to court on Wednesday when the Diplomats travel to Ursinus. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
