Head-to-Head: F&M will face Ursinus for the 113th time since the series began in 1915. The Diplomats hold a 79-33 advantage, winning the last five contests.
The Mules and Diplomats will tip-off for 130th time since 1903. F&M has won six out of the last seven contests. Muhlenberg defeated F&M 71-67 earlier this season.
Last Time Out: Five players scored in double-figures as No. 22 Franklin & Marshall defeated Haverford 71-56 in Centennial Conference (CC) action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats picked up the season sweep of the Fords for the third year in a row and improved to 15-4, 10-2 CC. Haverford fell to 8-9, 6-6 CC.
F&M led wire-to-wire in the first half, opening up the game on an 8-0 run. The Fords came within a point on multiple occasions, the last coming at 8:05 with the score 18-17 in favor of the Diplomats. F&M drained two treys to lead by seven at 6:42 before taking a 32-29 edge into the break.
The Fords came out strong in the second, taking a 35-34 lead two minutes into the second half. That lead was short lived as F&M strung together a Steve Tolliver led 17-6 run to take a 51-41 edge at 12:56. Tolliver scored six of his 10 points in the run. F&M led by as much as 18 points and did not trail by more than 11 the remainder of the contest.
Hayk Gyokcyan finished with a team-high 14 points on 6-for-8 shooting. Georgio Milligan netted 13 and Brandon Beckford dropped in 12 points. Mike Baker pulled down a game-high 12 boards and added 10 points for his sixth double-double of the season.
On the Glass: Mike Baker ranks second in the CC in rebounds per game. The senior forward is averaging 8.2 boards a game.
Not in Here: The Diplomats are 13th in country in blocked shots per game. F&M averages 4.8 blocks a game.
800 Victories: Glenn Robinson is three victories away from becoming only the 13th coach in NCAA history to reach the 800-win plateau. Robinson is also three games away from coaching in his 1,100 contest in his 40 years at F&M.
Last Time We Met UC: No. 15 Franklin & Marshall overcame a 14-point deficit to defeat Ursinus 78-69 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action.
Trailing 41-27 with 1:27 remaining in the first half, F&M scored seven unanswered points to go into the break down seven, 41-34. The Diplomats picked up where they left off, starting the second half with a 14-2 run to take a 48-43 edge, a lead they never gave up.
The Diplomats led by as much as 10 points in the second stanza, but Ursinus came within one twice, the last was 60-59 with 7:48 left. From there, F&M went on a short 9-2 run to go up 69-61 with 4:21 left and never looked back.
F&M was paced by Georgio Milligan who had 24 points. Milligan was one of four Diplomats to reach double figures. Brandon Beckford scored a career-high 18 points and pulled down seven boards. James McNally scored all 16 of his points in the second half and finished with five rebounds. Mike Baker chipped in with 10 points for the Diplomats and went over 600 career rebounds, collecting five.
Last Time We Met MC: No. 18 Franklin & Marshall fell 71-67 to Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action.
Muhlenberg scored eight unanswered points to take a seven-point, 66-59, lead with 4:34 remaining in the contest. F&M countered to come within in three points, 66-63, on two Mike Baker free throws with just under two minutes left in the game. Austin Curry hit 5-out-6 free throws over the final two minutes to secure the victory for the Mules.
The Diplomats started the game out strong leading by as much as eight, 23-15, midway through the first half. F&M maintained its lead and went into the break up 39-35. Baker paced the Diplomats with 10 points in the opening stanza.
The Mules took their first lead of the contest at 12:53 in the second half. Muhlenberg led by four, 52-48, before the Diplomats regained the lead at 55-53 with 6:52 remaining in the game. The teams traded buckets over the ensuing minutes, before the Mules put together their decisive run.
James McNally netted a team-high 17 points for the Diplomats. Georgio Milligan and Baker finished with 14 points apiece while Brandon Beckford added 11. Baker pulled down a game-high 10 boards.
