Diplomats Edge Dickinson in OT Thriller

LANCASTER, Pa. – Brandon Federici netted 13 points in overtime to help lift Franklin & Marshall to a 100-90 overtime victory over Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) action Wednesday evening at the Mayser Center. F&M picks up its fourth-straight victory and improved to 11-5, 5-4 CC while the Red Devils dropped to 9-7, 6-3 CC. 

Federici opened the extra frame with two triples for a six-point F&M edge and buried a three at 2:35 to make it 88-80. Dickinson came within six, 92-86, at 1:26 before Matthew Tate and Jared Wright both netted a point from the line to put F&M up eight. Federici hit three from the line after a double-technical on Dickinson for a 10-point F&M lead with 43 ticks left and the Diplomats were able to secure the win from the line down the stretch. 

Dickinson took an early 12-6 lead three minutes into the game and continued to lead by six three minutes later at 16:10. F&M answered with a 16-2 run over the next six minutes and took an 8-point, 26-18, lead at 7:29. The Red Devils netted five straight to come within three, and stayed within three, 28-25, with a little more than four minutes to play. 

Federici scored five straight to put F&M up eight, 33-25, at 3:19. The Diplomats led 35-27, at 2:04, but Dickinson scored the last four points of the half to come within four, with F&M leading 35-31 at the break. 

Federici led all scorers in the opening half with 12 points and Lionel Owona went into the break with seven. 

F&M increased its lead to 43-33 at 17:11 in the second and went up 15, 55-40, at 11:16, before the Red Devils answered with a 15-5 run to come within five. The Diplomats quickly went up 11, but Dickinson answered with an 11-1 spurt to make it a one-point game, 71-70, with 1:50 left to play. Dickinson stayed within striking distance and Elijah Wright drained a three with .6 seconds left to send the game into overtime. 

Federici shot 10-for-14 from the stripe to finish with a season-high 33 points, just one point off his career-high. J.C. McGrath netted 14 and Tate finished with 13 points and four steals. Eggers had 12 and Wright ended the game with 11 points and four steals. 

Wright paced Dickinson with 23, Justus Melton had 19 and Mike Hinckley finished with 17. 

F&M returns to action on Saturday when the Diplomats host Haverford at 3:00 p.m.
