Tournament History: The idea of what is now the Sponaugle New Years Tournament was originated in March 1966. The idea was to create an event that would bring together area college basketball teams in an annual "tip-off" tournament. This year marks the 50th Tournament.

The first tournament was played in December 1967, seven months after S. Woodrow "Woody" Sponaugle died. With the permission of his family, the tournament was named in his memory. Traditionally a tip-off tournament, this is the 11th time in 13 years it starts off the new year to mark the end of the holiday break, and the start down the road toward Salem.

Tickets: Tickets for the tournament are: $6 for an adult per day and $3 for students w/ I.D. per day.

Among the Leaders: Heading into the week, Brandon Federici leads the Conference with 23 points per game while Ignas Slyka and Matthew Tate are first and third with 2.6 and 2.3 steals a game, respectively. Matt Groll sits fourth with 7.8 boards a game and leads the CC with three double-double performances this season.

F&M's Last Game: F&M jumped out to an 8-0 record to start out the season, before suffering a 79-63 setback to Albright in the last game of the first semester. Full recap.

Brandon Federici hit 9-of-18 from the floor and finished with 25 points to go along with five rebounds and Matthew Tate ended with 19 points. Matt Redhead added seven off the bench and Lionel Owona grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.

Last Time F&M Met McDaniel: Brandon Federici and Hunter Eggers combined for 46 points to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 70-47 victory over McDaniel last year on Jan. 28. Full recap.
