LANCASTER, Pa. – J.C. McGrath netted 22 points to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 70-50 over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Mayser Center. F&M improved to 11-1, 5-0 CC while the Green Terror fell to 2-9, 0-5 CC.
Both teams struggled in the early minutes to find the hoop and McDaniel held an 11-4 lead six minutes into the game. Brandon Federici led F&M on a 27-6 run over the next 11 minutes to put the Diplomats out front by 14, 31-17, with 3:05 left in the half. Federici had 11 points in the run. McDaniel came within 10 with just under a minute to play, but McGrath's layup as time expired gave F&M a 37-25 lead at the break.
Federici led all scorers in the opening frame with 15 points while Matthew Tate netted 11 for F&M.
The second half belonged to the Diplomats as F&M increased its lead to 21, 50-29, on two McGrath foul shots. F&M took its largest lead of the game a few minutes later at 23 points and maintained a double-digit advantage the remainder of the game.
McGrath had a game-high 22 points to go along with eight boards and five assists. Federici ended with 17 points with seven rebounds and Tate had four steals and 14 points. Lionel Owona ended with seven boards, six points and four steals for the Diplomats.
F&M outshot McDaniel 42-37 percent and held a 39-33 edge on the glass.
The Diplomats return to action on Tuesday when F&M travels to Muhlenberg for an 8:00 p.m. tip.
