Men’s Rowers Rebound After Collision

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall's varsity men's crew fell off the pace from the outset, but battled back to draw even with the Lehigh junior varsity crew about 600 meters from the finish. That's when blades clashed bringing F&M to a complete stop. The official completed the race and allowed Lehigh's jayvee and F&M to re-race the last 600 meters from where the collision occurred.

The Diplomats showed their grit and pulled ahead to beat the Lehigh boat by five seconds. The times where F&M: 2:05.7, Lehigh B 2:10.3.   

Varsity 8 members from bow to cox are Ho Hong Lau, Nick Ferra, Aaron Hodes, Will Riegel, Daniel Falciani, Patrick Maloney, Brent Schneider, Conor Borak and coxswain Kevin Brown.

F&M's novice 4 comprised of Anirvan Awatramani, Kyle Rothman, Greg Hershman, Chris Virunurm and coxswain Juan Pitarque finished third of three in their event behind Lehigh and Iona.

The entire men's team resumes competition tomorrow in Conshohocken vs Scranton and Susquehanna.

Conditions: crews race upstream into a strong head current. Strong head wind for entire morning, relatively calm water. Floating start. Some crews were pushed farther back during alignment, so times vary quite a bit from race to race.

Comments: *In the Men's V8 race, Lehigh B and F&M clashed blades with 600 meters to go, causing a boat-stopping crab in the F&M boat. The two crews finished out the race, and then re-raced the last 600 meters. The times where F&M: 2:05.7, Lehigh B 2:10.3
