Shoremen Rowers Defeat Diplomats

CHESTERTOWN, Md. –  Franklin and Marshall's rowers fell to Washington College Sunday morning on the Chester River on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

The Diplomats' men's crew improved their performance relative last year as well, but not by nearly as much as the women.   F&M trailed Washington College by 5.4 sec over the 2,000-meter course. Washington raced to a 5.56, while F&M finished in at 6:01. In last year's race, Washington won by a margin of 7 seconds.

With Kevin Brown in the coxswain seat, F&M was stroked by Conor Borak followed by Brent Schneider, Patrick Maloney, Daniel Falciani, Will Riegel, Aaron Hodes, Nick Ferra, and bow Ho Hong Lau.

The Diplomat men's novice 4 comprised of coxswain Juan Pitarque, Greg Hershman, Kyle Rothman, Clement Hsu and stroke Chris Virunurm lost to Washingon College 6.24 to 6.51.

The day’s races were delayed a half-hour due to heavy fog. Right before the scheduled start a torrential downpour moved across the Chester River before the skies cleared up and the wind moved in. The coaches and race officials worked diligently to get everything in before the water became too dangerous.

The Diplomats return to the water on Saturday at Lehigh University.
