• Season in Review: 2016 F&M Football

    For the fifth time in the previous six years, Franklin & Marshall’s football team concluded its season with a winning record, when the Diplomats once again contributed to that sum in 2016 by rolling to a 7-4 overall mark and a 6-3 Centennial Conference (CC) record.
  • Granahan, Daly Named ECAC South All-Stars

    Franklin & Marshall’s Joe Granahan and Brendan Daly were named to the ECAC South All-Star team for football on Tuesday. Granahan was named to the first team for defense, while Daly landed on the second team for defense.
  • Albright Tops F&M in CC-MAC Bowl

    An Albright touchdown with 3:34 left in the fourth quarter delivered the host Lions a tight 28-23 victory over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon in the CC-MAC Bowl. The loss moved the Diplomats’ record to 7-4 after the final game of the season, while Albright improved to 8-3 with the win.

    Saturday’s game marks the 38th meeting between the two schools that began with a 13-7 F&M win in 1912. The Diplomats hold a 24-11-2 series advantage, including five of the last six contests. Albright defeated F&M 38-34 in the ECAC Southeast Bowl at the end of the 2012 season with F&M’s last victory occurring on Oct. 9, 1982 (10-7) when the schools played in the MAC conference. The Diplomats joined the Centennial Conference in 1983.

    Twelve members of the Franklin & Marshall football team earned spots on the All-Centennial Football Team announced Tuesday. Four earned a place on the first team, three landed on the second team and five received honorable mention. The 12 selections are the most under head coach John Troxell.

    The Centennial Conference (CC) and the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) announced the four participating teams in the 2016 Second Annual Centennial-MAC Bowl Series. The Muhlenberg Mules and Franklin & Marshall Diplomats from the Centennial Conference, and the Albright Lions and the Delaware Valley Aggies from the MAC will take part in the second year of the Bowl Series.

    No. 7 Johns Hopkins defeated Franklin & Marshall 48-28 in Centennial Conference (CC) football action Saturday afternoon at Sponaugle-Williamson Field. F&M dropped to 6-3, 6-2 CC while the Blue Jays remained undefeated at 9-0, 8-0 CC and clinched their eighth consecutive CC Title.

The Diplomats hold a 35-30-2 lead in the series and a 16-15 mark in Lancaster. Since Centennial Conference play began in 1983, Johns Hopkins owns a 20-13 edge. F&M has the longest streak between the two teams, taking 17 matchups between 1971 and 1988.

    Cody Hubbs was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 Team, announced Thursday. The CoSIDA Academic All-America Program requires that nominees are at least a sophomore with a 3.30 or higher cumulative grade point average and are starters or significant reserves on their team.

    Saturday’s game marks the 17th meeting between Franklin & Marshall and Susquehanna with F&M leading the series 12-2-2. The first clash between the two teams came in 1898 in Selinsgrove. F&M won 6-0 on October 25 that year, before both teams met again in Lancaster the following year and played to a 6-6 tie, the first of two ties in the series. F&M has won three straight and holds a 4-2 edge in Centennial Conference action.

    Franklin & Marshall defeated Dickinson 20-10 in Centennial Conference (CC) football action Saturday afternoon on a rain-soaked Biddle Field. The win gives F&M possession of the coveted Conestoga Wagon Trophy for the first time since 2013. One of the longest rivalries in Division III, the trophy is a model of the wagon that transported both teams to play each other in both meetings in 1889.

The series started in Carlisle on Oct. 30, 1889, with a 10-0 Dickinson win and the teams gathered again on Nov. 28th of that year, with F&M posting a 22-0 shutout. The Diplomats lead the series 62-42-3, but Dickinson has won 22 of the last 27 meetings.

The win is the second straight for F&M as the Diplomats improved to 3-1, 2-1 CC while the Eagles suffered their first loss of the season and fell to 3-1, 2-1 CC.

    Saturday's game marks the 13th time F&M and Juniata have convened on the gridiron and the ninth time since Juniata attained associate membership status in the Centennial Conference. F&M has won all nine meetings since the Eagles have landed in the league. F&M?s 28-12 win in Huntingdon in 2007, rekindled the rivalry after a 21-year hiatus. The first two contests were played in Lancaster - 61 years apart. The Diplomats won the first game played back on Oct. 18, 1924, by a 27-0 margin.

    Saturday’s game marks the 98th renewal of a series that dates back to 1894. The Diplomats have taken eight of the last 14 meetings, with the Bears coming out on top in four of the last six years. Franklin & Marshall holds a 64-29-4 lead in the series and a 21-12 lead since Centennial play began in 1983. The Diplomats won the initial contest by a score of 76-0 and the Bears picked up their first win over F&M in the sixth meeting, a 16-0 victory in Collegeville in 1902.
