Kase Files Victory over Diplomats
BALTIMORE - The Centennial Conference's (CC) top offense and defense collided on Homewood Field Saturday, with the top defense seizing the day. Johns Hopkins' defense held Franklin & Marshall in check, while the Jays' (7-2, 6-1 CC) offense rode Andrew Kase to a 51-13 win over the Diplomats (7-2, 5-2).
Hopkins' defense took the ball two times, stopped F&M on fourth down four times, and ended three Diplomat drives deep in Hopkins' territory. F&M was limited to 259 yards of offense, 116.5 yards below its season average of 375.5. Meanwhile, Johns Hopkins piled up 507 yards.
Johns Hopkins topped the 50-point mark for the second time in as many weeks. The Jays' win leaves Hopkins in the driver seat for the Centennial Conference championship. A win over McDaniel next week would put the boot in Baltimore and deliver Johns Hopkins the NCAA automatic qualifier.
Kase rushed 34 times for 202 yards and three touchdowns in the win, becoming the fourth collegiate player in Maryland history to rush for 4,000 yards in his career. Kase's work on the ground helped Hopkins to seven third down conversions on a dozen attempts.
F&M quarterback, John Harrison, was sacked six times and under pressure throughout. He still finished the day with 275-yards and two touchdowns on a 27-of-41 effort. He was picked off twice in the loss.
Mike Deutch caught eight passes for 95 yards and a first quarter touchdown. Jay Ridinger had two receptions for 21 yards and a third quarter touchdown. George Eager had six receptions for 72 yards. Jarrell Diggs had six catches for 60 yards.
The Diplomats return to action next week against Gettysburg. Franklin & Marshall will honor its senior prior to the contest.
