LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall College did not break into the top 25 in the D3Football.com preseason poll, but the Diplomats did receive votes from the organization's committee. The D3Football.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly.
"It is an honor to be recognized, but we need to come into camp prepared to work hard to back that up," said head coach John Troxell.
F&M earned four points in the poll. Wisconsin-Whitewater tops the chart with 20 of the 25 first place votes. Mt. Union earned the other five top nods.
The Diplomats posted a 9-2 record in 2009, capping the season with an ECAC South Atlantic Bowl victory. The Diplomats return 16 starters for 2010, eight on either side of the ball. Junior quarterback, John Harrison, will return for his third season under center. The All-Centennial Second Team selection completed 276 passes for 3,096 yards and 32 touchdowns. He is one of four returning all-conference choices returning to the Diplomats' 2010 roster.
Troxell was named the Centennial Conference's Coach of the Year by his peers and selected as the Offensive Coordinator or the South Team for the D3 Senior All-Star Classic in 2009. Three of his 67 players were selected to compete in postseason all-star games.
The Diplomats open the 123rd season of football on Saturday, September 4 when Washington & Lee visits Lancaster.
