Diplomats Down Greyhounds

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Frank Strumolo rushed for 82 yards on 16 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 34-2 homecoming-victory over Moravian in Centennial Conference (CC) football action Saturday afternoon. F&M improved to 6-1, 5-1 CC while the Greyhounds fell to 2-5, 2-4 CC.

F&M struck first on its second possession when the Diplomats put together a seven-play, 88-yard drive. E.J. Schneider found Paul McGann on a 32-yard pass to put F&M on the 15 and Strumolo took it from with a 15-yard jaunt to give F&M an early 7-0 edge.

Sam Massaro picked off Jimmy Lahue on the first play of Moravian's next possession to give F&M the ball on their own 33-yardline. Eight plays and 57 yards later, Schneider hooked up with Tim Muller on a one-yard score and Chris DeStafano's extra point gave the Diplomats a 14-0 lead with 4:36 left in the first quarter.

The Diplomat defense forced Moravian to a four-and-out on its next series, and Strumolo capped off a five-play, 54-yard drive with a seven-yard run to make it 21-0 at the end of the first.

Sloppy play and turnovers made up most of the second quarter, and the Greyhounds got their only points on a muffed punt that resulted in a safety, which led to a 21-2 halftime score.

Moravian put together one of its longest drives of the game to open the second half, as the Greyhounds drove 43 yards on nine plays only to have a 32-yard field goal attempt come up short.  F&M took advantage on its next series with a 12-play, 80-yard drive that took 9:17 off the clock.

Schneider did most of the heavy lifting in the drive with 69 passing yards and another 10 on the ground. Strumolo rushed in from six yards out for his third score to finish off the drive. A botched snap on the PAT made with 27-2 at 3:19 in the third.

F&M put its final points on the board with a masterful 17-play drive that went 97 yards in 9:53. Scott LaValva rushed for 44 yards in the series and finished things off with a two-yard plunge and the PAT made 34-2.

Schneider completed 22-of-29 passes with 294 yards with a touchdown and added 59 yards on the ground. Paul McGann led all receivers with 107 yards on seven catches while Muller finished with 88 yards on nine receptions. Devin Hunter hauled with three catches for 60 yards.

LaValva finished with 57 yards on 14 carries and Lamont Jackson had 57 on nine touches.

F&M totaled 521 yards on offense while the defense limited the Greyhounds to just 161 yards.

Massaro led the defense with four solo tackles, including a sack and one interception. Ryan Young and Kenny Provost also finished with four tackles and C.T. Marsh ended with two tackles, with one sack.

Marsh brings his career sack total to 30 and needs just 1.5 more to sit atop the CC career sack list. Brian Ridgway from Dickinson compiled 31 in his career.

F&M returns to action on Oct. 27 when the Diplomats travel to Susquehanna for a 1:00 p.m. CC showdown.
