Diplomats Roll Past McDaniel for Homecoming Victory

LANCASTER, Pa. – Taalib Gerald totaled 192 all-purpose yards with two scores to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 25-7 victory over McDaniel on Saturday in Centennial Conference (CC) football action. The Homecoming victory improved F&M's record to a 5-1, 4-1 CC while the Green Terror dropped to 1-5, 1-4 CC. 

F&M led the entire contest and jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after Billy Zwicharowski connected on a 32-yard field goal midway through the first quarter. A little over a minute into the second quarter Vincent Moffett picked off a pass by Will Koester and three plays later Zachary Bradley found Gerald for a 10-yard touchdown. Fortunato Perri raced around the right side for the two-point conversation to make it 11-0.

The defense forced a three-and-out on McDaniel's next series and the offense capitalized with a 7-play, 63-yard drive.  Gerald did the bulk of the damage with 44 yards on the ground before Bradley connected with Bobby Keyes on a four-yard strike to put the Diplomats up 18-0.

On its second series in the third quarter, F&M marched 37 yards down the field and scored on a 25-yard pitch-and-catch from Bradley to Gerald for a 25-0 lead. The teams exchanged field position the remainder of the third quarter, before the Green Terror finally got on the scoreboard early in the fourth for the 25-7 final.

Gerald rushed for 119 yards on 21 carries, added another 41 yards on three catches with two scores and picked up 32 yards on a kickoff return. Dave Shellhammer had 63 yards on 17 touches and Keyes hauled in six catches for 54 yards and one score.

Bradley completed 13-of-27 passes for 128 yards and three touchdowns on the afternoon.

Jeff Leone and Brendan Daly paced the defense with five tackles each while Steve Elf, Luke Foukas, Michael Sullivan and Jon Naji all had three stops for the Diplomats.  

F&M outgained McDaniel 306-177 yards on offense and held a 35:44-24:16 edge in time of possession.

The Diplomats return to action next Saturday when F&M hosts Moravian at 1:00 p.m.
