LANCASTER, Pa. – Twelve members of the Franklin & Marshall football team earned spots on the All-Centennial Football Team announced Tuesday. Four earned a place on the first team, three landed on the second team and five received honorable mention. The 12 selections are the most under head coach John Troxell.
All four first-team nods came from the defensive unit that leads the conference with 31 sacks as Joe Granahan, Steve Elf, Vincent Moffett and Brendan Daly were named All-CC First Team. Mark Opaliski joined Michael Sullivan and Luke Foukas on the second team and Taalib Gerald, Matthew Hlavinka along with Jon Naji, Billy Zwicharowski and Cody Hubbs received honorable mention.
Sophomore defensive end Granahan (Garnet Valley, Pa. / Garnet Valley) leads the team and is second in the CC with 8.5 sacks. His 13 tackles for a loss are also second in the conference and he heads into the final weekend with 45 tackles. Senior linebacker Elf (Glen Mills, Pa. / Garnet Valley) is second on the team with 56 stops (30s) and 11 TFLs while also recording six sacks and five pass breaks as both received postseason honors for the first time.
Junior safety Moffett (Philadelphia, Pa. / St. Joe's Prep.), a 2015 All-CC Second Team honoree, has 38 tackles (28s), three interceptions and five pass break-ups while Daly, a senior, (Norfolk, Mass. / St. Sebastian's School) leads the team with 61 tackles (43s) and six passes broken up from his safety position for his first All-CC accolade.
Senior defensive lineman Sullivan (Eastchester, N.Y. / Iona Prep) had eight TFLs, including two sacks and has 32 tackles (18s) and senior linebacker Foukas (Pequannock, N.J. / Pequannock) was in on 47 stops (32s), including 10.5 that went for a loss and six sacks. Naji (North Wales, Pa. / La Salle College) recorded 44 tackles (24s) with 6.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. All three received All-CC honors for the first time in their careers.
Opaliski (Philadelphia, Pa. / William Penn Charter) and Hlavinka (Bethlehem, Pa. / Bethlehem Catholic) anchor a line that paved the way for 1,716 yards. Opaliski, received honorable mention last year, and has started in nine games at center and holds a 92-percent blocking percentage and 71 knockdowns while Hlavinka grades out at 89-percent with 55 knockdowns at left guard.
Gerald (Egg Harbor Township, N.J. / Holy Spirit) leads the team with 66 points on 11 touchdowns. He racked up 695 yards on 151 attempts for a 4.6 average and added another 96 yards on eight receptions.
Zwicharowski (Magnolia, Del. / Polytech) made 24-of-26 extra points and connected on eight field goal attempts with a long of 38 yards and is second on the team with 48 points. Hubbs (Howell, N.J. / Howell) averages 37.6 yards per punt with a long of 65 and has placed 18 inside the 20. He also averages 52 yards on 53 kickoffs for the Diplomats.
F&M finished the regular season at 7-3 with a 6-3 record in Centennial action and will travel to Albright on Saturday to take on the Lions in Centennial-MAC Bowl.
