Eggertsson Named September 19 Centennial Conference Special Teams Player of the Week

LANCASTER, PA -- Franklin & Marshall College placekicker/punter Dan Eggertsson (Sr., Royal Palm, FL/Suncoast) has been named the September 19 Centennial Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in a 35-14 victory over Hobart College on September 18.

Against the Statesmen, he averaged 49.2 yards per punt off four punts for 197 yards, including a 65-yarder, with two downed inside the 20-yard line. In addition, his only punt of the first half was partially blocked but went 47 yards to inside the 20-yard line and pinned the Statesmen deep in their own territory.

In the latest Centennial Conference statistics, Eggertsson leads the Conference in punting with a 41.5 yard average (15 punts for 622 yards) and point after efficiency (15-for-15). Further, he ranks third in field goals (two), third in field goal percentage (two-for-three, 66.7 percent) and sixth in scoring with 7.0 points per game as Eggertsson has 21 points in three games as the Diplomats have opened the season 3-0 for the first time since 2002.

As a team, Franklin & Marshall ranks among the Centennial Conference leaders in scoring offense (first, 37.0 points), scoring defense (second, 14.0 points), pass offense (first, 276.3 yards), pass defense (fourth, 172.3 ypg), kickoff returns (second, 22.6 yards), punting (first, 36.4 yards), turnover margin (second, +3), rushing offense (fourth, 149.7 yards), rushing defense (third, 102.7 yards), total offense (first, 426.0 yards), total defense (third, 275.0 yards), punt returns (fifth, 8.2 yards), pass efficiency (first, 159.2 yards), pass defense efficiency (second, 92.8 yards), first downs (first, 65), opponent first downs (fourth, 45), sacks by (second, eight), penalty yards (fifth, 53.7 yards), opponent penalties (third, 59.3 yards), fourth down conversions (second, 62.5 percent), opponent fourth down conversions (first, 11.1 percent), red zone defense (third, 66.7 percent), third down conversions (first, 43.8 percent), sacks against (second, five), field goals (third, .667 percent), PAT kicking (first, 15-for-15) and time of possession (fourth, 30:40).

For his career, Eggertsson has punted 108 times for 4,044 yards, an average of 37.44 yards per punt, as he moved ahead of Andy Gilburg '00 (37.2) and into second pace in career punting average in the history of the Conference behind Jon Bushey '97.

Eggertsson's selection marks the third time in three weeks the Diplomats have earned a Centennial Conference Player of the Week nod as tailback Scott Stephen (Sr., Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) and quarterback Jeff Harner (So., Mohrsville, PA/Schuylkill Valley) earned Offensive Player of the Week honors on September 5 and 12, respectively.

Franklin & Marshall (3-0, 0-0 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on September 25 at Carnegie Mellon University. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
