Diplomats Fall to Fords by One
LANCASTER, Pa – Travis Gregory’s two goals in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference as Franklin & Marshall lost 9-8 to visiting no. 11 Haverford in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s lacrosse action Saturday night.
The Diplomats tied the game early in the third quarter when Noah Wilkinsky found Brett Leppert for the go ahead goal. Mark Hild put F&M up with a diving shot from around net that rolled through the five- hole. That was the only time Franklin & Marshall led.
Haverford answered a minute later with an unassisted goal by Max Hjelm. The Fords reclaimed the lead with 12:23 left when Gregory took as pass Myles Monaghan for his first goal of the quarter, putting Haverford up 7-6. Monaghan added another goal five minutes later.
Franklin & Marshall answered when Wilkinsky took a Jeff Ritter pass to score. The goal put F&M within one. Gregory’s second marker of the quarter came seven seconds later, putting the Fords up 9-7. Hild got the deficit back to one scoring with 2:06 left. Franklin & Marshall had a chance to tie with time running down, but were unable to score. Wilkinsky fired a shot just wide with 0.4 seconds left.
Hild led all scorers with four goals and one assist. Wilkinsky finished the night with a goal and an assist. Gregory turned in a hat trick for the Fords, adding an assist for four points. Monaghan scored twice and dished three assists.
The Diplomats out shot Haverford 26 to 20 and were even in the draw circle, winning 10 of 20 draws.
F&M returns to action April 15th when they host McDaniel.
