Diplomats Ground No. 19 Seahawks

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall outscored St. Mary's in every quarter to earn an 11-5 win over the No. 19 Seahawks Saturday at Tylus Field. The Diplomats improved to 3-1 while St. Mary's fell to 1-2.

The Seahawks took an early 1-0 lead when Taylor Cook netted a shot at 12:35 before F&M scored two goals in just over a minute. A.J. Reichart's goal evened the game at 1-1 before long pole James King cleared the ball and buried a shot to give the Diplomats their first lead, 2-1, with 9:13 left in the first. St. Mary's tied the game on a man-up goal from Patrick Mull and retook the lead when Riley Fink scored with 4:06 left in the opening quarter. Reichart's second goal of the game, at 3:19 tied the game again at 3-3 and Tristan Miller gave F&M the lead for good with a goal at 1:05.

Kevin Kilpatrick found James Wenk to give the Diplomats a 5-3 advantage before depositing a shot of his own to put F&M up by three, 6-3, with 11:56 left in the second quarter. 

After Brendan Oster's goal got the Seahawks within two, 6-4, with 7:34 left in the second quarter, the Diplomats went on a 5-0 run that spanned the rest of the first half and the start of the fourth quarter. Billy Kempner began the run late in the second quarter before James Wenk and Jordan Barr added one each in the third. Wenk added two more in the fourth to put the Diplomats ahead 11-4. Colin McKew assisted Barr's score and  Wenk's first goal in the fourth quarter.

Wenk scored a game-high four goals for F&M and McKew had a game-high two assists. Andrew Setian was 14 of 18 at the faceoff X and Kier Blevins scooped six ground balls, all on faceoffs, for the Diplomats.

Cameron Setian improved to 3-1 between the pipes with 14 saves to anchor the defense. Defensively, the Diplomats halted eight, of 20, clear attempts and allowed only one man-up goal in the Seahawks seven opportunities.

The Diplomats return action Saturday against Washington & Lee. The game will played at St. Paul's School in Brookland, Md. at 1 p.m.
