LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall tallied four goals in the final minute of the first half and cruised to a 12-5 victory over Albright in men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Tylus Field. The win is the fifth straight for F&M as the Diplomats improved to 5-2 while the Lions dropped to 1-3 on the season.
Jamie McCulloch gave F&M the early edge when he buried a pass from Philip Gamble five minutes into the game. The Lions answered four minutes later when Cam Cetrone finished off a pass from Andrew Potter to the tie the game at 1-1 at 6:05. F&M countered with three straight and went up 4-1 midway in the second quarter.
Philip Gamble started things off with an unassisted tally at 5:12 in the first before Michael Bossidy scored his first goal of the day off a pass from McCulloch a minute into the second quarter and picked up his second five minutes later with a behind the back shot off a pass from Billy Kempner with 9:14 left in the second. Albright made it 4-2 at 8:18 and F&M answered with seven straight goals spanning into the third quarter.
Chad Gamble netted a goal at 3:49 to start the spurt, before the Diplomats scored four goals in 42 seconds with just under a minute left in the half. Mike Sanzone was key in the run, winning three faceoffs and Billy Kempner put the first ball through with 57 ticks on the clock. Bossidy picked up his third off a pass from Philip Gamble and Sanzone got into the action with a score at 23 seconds to make it 8-2. Kempner found Will Ballantyne with just 15 seconds left to give F&M a 9-2 lead at the break.
The Diplomats continued the run with two in the opening three minutes of the third quarter to go up 11-2. The first goal happened a 14:01 when Jordan DiZeno made a save for the Lions, but the ball bounced off his stick into the field of the play and was knocked back into the net by an Albright player attempting to picked up the ball which resulted in an own goal, giving F&M a 10-2 lead. Ballantyne netted his second three minutes later to make 11-2.
Cetrone scored for Albright at 6:59 and Jamie McCulloch picked up the last goal for F&M at 6:59 in the third. Albright managed two more goals the remainder of the game, one at the end of the third and the other midway through the fourth, for 12-5 final.
Cameron Setian improved to 5-2 on the year with 10 saves while DiZenzo took the loss with eight stops.
F&M returns to action next Saturday when the Diplomats travel to Muhlenberg for the Centennial Conference opener against the Mules at 1:00 pm.
