LANCASTER, Pa. – No. 11 Franklin & Marshall picked up a dominant 16-2 win over Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats improved to 7-1, 1-0 CC while the Garnet fell to 5-2, 0-1 CC.
F&M took an early 1-0 lead five minutes into the game and the Garnet matched five minutes later and tied the game at 1-1 It was all F&M after that as the Diplomats scored 15 straight. F&M took a 3-1 edge heading into the second and tallied seven unanswered in the second quarter for an 8-1 lead at the break.
The Diplomats continued to dominate in the third with seven goals and went in the final frame with a 15-1 advantage. F&M put one through early in the second to make it 16-1 and the Garnet broke a 45-minute drought with a goal at the end of the fourth.
Luke Keating had three goals and one assist, Kevin Mollihan struck three times and Sean Rogers along with Harry Rice both scored twice. Rogers added an assist as did Rob Baxter, Ronan Garcia and Nick Crennan. Tucker McBride, John Sommi, Sam Garges, Jamie Spruance and Ellis Llewellyn all ended with a goal and George Briggs finished with four helpers and one score.
Llewellyn added two caused turnovers with four ground balls and Jarrett Donaghy collected six ground balls while Andrew Fine finished with four. Scott Hatch picked up the win with five stops in the cage and improved to 7-1.
F&M outshot Swarthmore 56-20, held a 36-33 edge in ground balls and went 16-for-18 in clear attempts.
The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday when F&M travels to Gettysburg for a 3:30 p.m. game.
