Todd Cavallaro enters his first season as the head coach of the
Franklin & Marshall men's lacrosse team, becoming the 15th
coach in program history.
Cavallaro comes to Franklin & Marshall after five seasons as
the head assistant coach at the University of Pennsylvania. With
Cavallaro as the Offensive Coordinator, the Quakers advanced to the
NCAA playoffs in 2004 after a 17-year absence from NCAA postseason
competition. The 2006 edition of Penn lacrosse also worked its way
into the Division I Championship Tournament.
A 1994 graduate of Johns Hopkins University, Cavallaro was a
four-year starter and two-year captain for the Blue Jays. He
immediately jumped into the coaching ranks, spending four seasons
on the sidelines as the Head Assistant Coach and Offensive
Coordinator at Washington College (Md.), where he helped the
Shoremen to the 1996, 1997, and 1998 NCAA Division III Championship
games.
Following the 1998 season at Washington, Cavallaro was named the
Offensive Coordinator at his alma mater. While coaching at Hopkins,
the Jays advanced to the Final Four in 1999 and 2000. He also
continued in his role of supervising the academic progress of the
Hopkins' roster, a role he first assumed while coaching at
Washington.
Following his stint at Johns Hopkins, Cavallaro moved on to the
Atlantic Coast Conference, where he spent three seasons as the Head
Assistant Coach and Offensive Coordinator at North Carolina before
departing for Penn. In addition to his experiences in the
collegiate ranks, Cavallaro has directed numerous lacrosse
camps.
As a player, Cavallaro earned numerous awards including the
Turnball Reynolds Award, given to the Johns Hopkins player who best
exemplifies the spirit of team play, sportsmanship and leadership.
In 1994, he earned the Sydney G. Erlanger Award, presented to the
outstanding senior on Hopkins' lacrosse roster, and was named to
the Division I South All-Star Team.
Cavallaro is a native of Corning, NY, and played his high school
lacrosse at Corning East where he led his team to the 1990 state
championship. His prowess on the lacrosse field landed him in the
Corning-Painted Post Hall of Fame in 1997. In 2006, he was inducted
into the New York Section IV Sports Hall of Fame. Cavallaro
currently resides in Lancaster, Pa. with wife Michelle and daughter
Avery.
Casey Kear enters his second season on the Franklin &
Marshall men's lacrosse staff.
Last season, Kear coached the Diplomat defense that only allowed
8.15 goals against per game. He also led F&M to a .852 success
rate on man down situations, ranking 7th in the nation in Division
III.
Kear is a 2006 graduate of the State University of New York at
Albany with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He was long stick
midfielder on the United States Military Academy at West Point
men's lacrosse team in 2002 and at Herkimer County Community
College in 2003, Kear helped lead Herkimer to the 2003 National
Junior College title.
He finished his career as a close defenseman at Albany during the
2004 and 2005 seasons as he totaled 76 ground balls in 32 games
with 17 starts, including starting all 16 games of 2005, in two
seasons.
The head men's lacrosse coach at Villanova University from
1982-2006, Randy Marks compiled a record of 179-152 during his 24
year tenure and was named to the United States Intercollegiate
Lacrosse Association (USILA) Century Club.
Marks had numerous players garner recognition for their play,
including five players who earned USILA Honorable Mention
All-America distinction and 22 players that claimed All-Conference
recognition. He has also had 16 players compete in the North/South
All-Star Game, two Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year
Award recipients, four Academic All-America selections and 20
All-Conference selections. Villanova also produced the conference
Rookie of the Year in 2003 and the Defensive Player of the Year in
2004.
In 2004, Marks guided Villanova to an impressive 12-3 record and a
final ranking of No. 14 in the national poll. This ranking marked
the Wildcats highest placement in the program's history and marked
the fourth time in five years that the Wildcats earned a spot in
the national poll. For his efforts in 2003 when he led Villanova to
a 10-5 record, Marks was named the Colonial Athletic Association
Coach of the Year. He also earned the Frenchy Julian Sportsmanship
Award in 2000 and the USILA Lifetime Service Award in 2006 for 35
years of coaching.
A teacher and administrator in the Lower Merion School District
from 1969-2001, Marks worked as a physical education teacher
(1969-93) before accepting the position of Dean of Students at
Harriton High School (1993-2001). In addition, he served as an
assistant football (1973-82) and lacrosse (1971-82) coach at Lower
Merion High School as the Aces recorded a 121-36 record while
winning the state championship twice in four appearances (1977,
1979) during his 11 year career as an assistant lacrosse coach.
A 1969 graduate of West Chester University of Pennsylvania with a
Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education, Marks earned
a Masters in Education from West Chester in 1972.
Roly Shover begins his first season as a volunteer assistant
coach and will work primarily with the face-off specialists for the
Diplomats. Shover previously coached at Penn Charter HS and
currently coaches Blue Mountain, a local All-Star High School team.
