Men's Soccer Ties Bullets
LANCASTER, Pa. - The Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team netted two unanswered goals in the second half to come back from a 2-0 deficit and battle through two overtimes to tie Gettysburg 2-all in Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer action on Wednesday night.
Teddy Smith registered both goals in the first half for the Bullets (4-3-3, 1-1-1 CC), but the Diplomats (4-4-1, 1-1-1 CC) got goals from Giuseppe Bua and Matt Krantz to even the score in regulation.
Gettysburg took control of the game from the opening whistle, taking a 1-0 lead on a low-driven shot by Smith after a pass from the endline by Ryan Peiffer in the first 53 seconds. Smith made it 2-0 with a diving header off a cross from Jeff Menge in the 21st minute.
F&M came out after the break with a vengeance and cut the lead to 2-1 with a left-footed shot to the right corner just 1:22 into the second half. They kept the pressure on and got the equalizer when Matt Krantz blasted his shot from 25-yards out into the top left corner to make it 2-all.
The Diplomats had a chance to get on the board in the first half, but Eric Elicker's shot hit the post with 17:30 left to play.
Neither team could find the golden goal in overtime with the Bullets holding a 2-1 shot advantage.
Zack Zamek made one save on the night, while Adam Finkel posted three stops for Gettysburg.
F&M returns to action on Saturday at Haverford. Game time is 1 p.m.
