Men's Soccer Hosts 3v3 Kickin AIDS Tournament
LANCASTER, Pa. - The Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team is teaming up with the ONE Campaign to host the second annual 3v3 Kickin AIDS Tournament on Sunday, October 26 at the Alumni Sports and Fitness Center, beginning at 11 a.m.
The tournament will consist of one large bracket with all of the admitted teams. A team can consist of at least three people with a maximum of five and must be coed. The cost is $10 per team member and the deadline to register is midnight on October 24. Registration with your team name and members can be made through Josh Wirtshafter at email@example.com. Payment can be made the day of the tournament at the check-in desk.
The Kickin AIDS Tournament is a fundraiser for Grassroots Soccer, to spread awareness on campus about the ONE Campaign, and to entice students to study abroad in Africa as a new alternative location. The ONE Campaign (www.one.org) is the official sponsor of the event and will be providing an information table at the site.
Survivor Africa winner and Fox Sports Soccer Analyst, Ethan Zohn, will attend the event. Zohn is taking an excursion off of his "Dribble" Campaign, where he is dribbling a soccer ball from Boston to Washington D.C. Kickin AIDS is a tool to further string a connection from Cape Town to Franklin & Marshall College through Zohn and Grassroots Soccer.
Former soccer standout Ryan McGonigle '08, is interning with Grassroots Soccer and running HIV/AIDS Prevention and Education Programs in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, South Africa, where the men's soccer team is currently completing the constructing of the Chris Campbell Memorial Turf Field. Further information on internship possibilities will be available.
