de Melo Wins Third Match With Katz

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Franklin & Marshall freshman Gabriel de Melo remains in the main draw of the Molloy Cup at College Squash Association Individual Championships. The double-elimination championships are being hosted by Williams College.

de Melo earned a first round bye and proceeded to battle back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Bates' No. 2, Will Katz, 4-9;5-9;9-3;9-3;9-0 in the second round. The meeting was the third between Katz and de Melo this season with the Diplomat taking all three. The first two meetings, including last week's at the CSA Team Championships, were 3-0 wins for de Melo.

F&M's freshman is now 14-2 on the season and has won each of his last six matches.

de Melo returns to action tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. when he faces Navy's Nils Mattsson. Mattsson handed F&M's No. 1 Nadaav Tannen a 3-0 setback during F&M's regular season win in Annapolis.
