Men’s Squash Wins Four; Falls to #1 Bantams
AMHERST, Mass. - Franklin & Marshall's men's squash team went 4-1 over the weekend with the only setback coming at the hands of unbeaten #1 Trinity. The #12 Diplomats opened the weekend with a 7-2 win over #18 Amherst, and then knocked off their next three opponents, #21 Colby, #42 Vassar, and #25 Wesleyan, 9-0. Trinity pasted the same score on the Diplomats' schedule.
Six Diplomats, #2 Guillherme de Melo, #3 Juan Lopez, #4 Sadiq Madraswala, #5 Zarir Aibara, #6 Pat Cunningham, and #9 Wes Roller, posted 4-1 records on the weekend. Madraswala moved to within three victories of becoming the 26th Diplomat to reach the 50-win plateau. He and Guillherme de Melo are each 9-1 in their last ten outings.
For Roller, the 4-1 weekend marked a solid start to his college career. He gave his Trinity opponent the most trouble in a match where F&M became the ninth team to be shutout by the Bantams in a dozen matches this year. Roller's fellow January option, John Sheldon, went 2-0 in his first collegiate competition.
#1 Gabriel de Melo, #9/10 Wick Clothier each recorded 3-1 records this weekend. #8 Fred Struse went 3-2, while Ben Lurio, who also gave his Trinity opponent fits, went 2-2.
Franklin & Marshall returns to action next weekend against Haverford.
