LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall's men's swimmers defeated Centennial Conference (CC) rivals, Dickinson, 124-76 Saturday afternoon. The win was the 21st consecutive CC victory for the Diplomats (5-2, 5-0 CC), while the Red Devils (4-3, 3-1 CC) suffered their first league setback of the season.
Swimming their final home dual meet, the Diplomats' seniors, Tom Grabiak and Matt Jaffee, did not disappoint. As they have done with great frequency throughout their four-years, the pair started F&M off on a winning note, combining with Zach Wilt and David Apple for first place points in the 200-yard medley relay. The F&M foursome made their way to the wall in 1:38.86, nearly three seconds ahead of Dickinson's top entry.
Jaffee and Conor Finnegan conspired to extend the F&M lead in the second race, taking first and second place points in the 1,000-yard free. Jaffee posted a 10:24.08, followed by Finnegan's 10:27.09. Dickinson's Brian Sandrib took third in 10:41.99. Jaffe took third place in a tightly contested 100-yard free. Diplomats' frosh, Tom Bergstrom took first with a 48.95, followed by Dickinson's Doug Murray at 49.10. Jaffee touched at 49.35. For Bergstrom, it was a second first place finish on the day. He won the 50-yard free in 22.38.
Grabiak also went on to win a race, taking the 200-yard I.M. in 1:59.83. He was followed to the wall by teammate, Travis Catania. Grabiak finished second only to teammate, Jake Reingold in the 500-yard freestyle. Reingold secured first place points in 4:55.58, with Grabiak grabbing second place points in 5:03.38. Reingold also earned first place points in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:49.96.
The Diplomats return to the pool next week for the final dual meet of the season. F&M will swim at Gettysburg next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
