Diplomats Third After Day One

Day One Results

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall's men's swimming team is in third place after the first day of Friday's Centennial Conference championship. The Diplomats struck gold twice with Jake Reingold and David Fell. F&M (171.5) trails Gettysburg (215) and Swarthmore (180).

Jake Reingold was the Diplomats first gold medalist. Reingold finished with a pool-record 4:38.29 in the 500 free. Reingold was five seconds faster than Ursinus' Lloyd Tannebaum (4:43.08). Tim Landon (4:46.34) and Conor Finnegan (4:46.70) finished fifth and sixth. Max Blum placed 13th with a 4:54.09.

David Fell picked up F&M's second gold with a pool-record 1:56.54 in the 200 IM. Fell edged Swarthmore's Daniel Duncan (1:57.91). Scott Rownd (2:01.24, 12th), Travis Catania (2:01.24, 12th) and Carson Bowes (2:04.92, 16th) picked up team points for the Diplomats in the 200 IM.

The Diplomats placed five swimmers in the top 16 in the 50 free led by David Apple's (21.71) eighth place finish. Patrick Musselman finished ninth, Zach Wilt and Tommy Bergstrom 11th and 12th and John Zipp was 15th.

Apple, Bergstrom, Wilt and Musselman earned a bronze in the 200 free relay with a 1:25.72. Gettysburg won the event by reseting the championship record with a 1:23.70. Finnegan, Levi Schy, Apple and John Zipp were members of the 400 medley relay team that finished 11th with a 3:36.94.

Swimming resumes Saturday at 10 a.m. with prelims of the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.
