SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall slipped past Swarthmore 103-102 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's swimming action. The Diplomats evened their record at 1-1, 1-1 CC, while the Garnet fell to 1-1, 1-1 CC.
Needing a win in the final race of the day, a team of Dennis Chen, David Burton, Matthew Murphy, and Ryan Caffrey earned second-place points in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:19.36 to give F&M the 103-102 meet victory.
Chen added two first-place victories in individual events, finishing first in the 100-yard freestyle at 49.67 and the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.34.
Patrick Greaney won the 1,000-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 10:28.38, while Andreas Lair Ferrari placed third with a time of 10:38.36. Caffrey earned first-place points for the Diplomats in the 50-yard freestyle at 22.45, while the freshman finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.17.
Eric Lang picked up three first-place finishes on the day, as the freshman won the 200-yard individual medley at 2:01.40, the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:16.24, and the 500-yard freestyle at 5:02.18.
In the 200-yard butterfly, Richard Denton placed second at 2:06.84, while Burton followed closely in third with a time of 2:07.31. Denton added a third-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:07.31.
The Diplomats return to the pool next Saturday when F&M travels to Johns Hopkins for a 12:00 p.m. meet.
