Dickinson Downs Diplomats 110-95 in Men's Swimming
LANCASTER, PA - Dan Straszynski (Jr., Langhorne, PA/Notre Dame) claimed the 1000 yard freestyle, 500 yard freestyle and the 200 yard breast stroke, but Dickinson College four individual event victories and wins in the 400-yard freestyle and medley relays to edge Franklin & Marshall College 110-95 in Centennial Conference men's swimming.
In the 1000-yard freestyle Straszynski finished in 10:13.97 to crush the Red Devils' Bill Baxter by 15 seconds. The same two swimmers battled it out in the 500-yard freestyle with the same outcome as Straszynski finished 10 seconds ahead of Baxter at 4:54.25. In the 200-yard breaststroke Straszynski and teammate Tim Falkner (Fr., Street, MD/North Harford) went 1-2 as Straszynski finished in a winning time of 2:23.15 with Falkner crossing at 2:24.38.
F&M added to their points total with a pair of individual wins as Andrew Turkewitz (Fr., York, PA/Dallastown) in the 200-yard butterfly and Mark Woodall (Sr., Camden, DE/Caesar Rodney) in the 200-yard backstroke crossed the line first.
Overall, the key to the meet was Dickinson's consistency as the Red Devils strung together multiple second and third place finishes to rack up enough points in the individual events to overcome the Diplomats' victories. In addition, Dickinson earned 26 points by finishing first in and third in the relays.

Franklin & Marshall College will return to the pool on January 30 in Baltimore, Maryland versus Division III powerhouse Johns Hopkins University at 6:00 p.m.
