Diplomats Host Fall Tournament

LANCASTER, Pa. - Doug Silverstein and Armen Vartan each won two singles matches to advance to the semifinals of the Franklin & Marshall men's tennis fall tournament over the weekend.

Silverstein posted a 6-0, 6-1 win in the first round of 16 and then went on to defeat Bo Marshall of Dickinson  by a score of 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the final four in singles action. Vartan collected a 6-2, 6-0 win over Jon Walter of Gettysburg, before defeating John Osborne of Muhlenberg by identical scores of 6-2 to join Silverstein in the semifinals. Both dropped their decisions to fall short of the finals.

Brad Nelson recorded a 1-1 in the singles competition, battling Mike Robins of Muhlenberg for a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the opening round. In doubles action, Eric Rouff and Tolly Taylor tallied the lone win for the Diplomats with a 8-5 victory over Jonathan Faber and Wayne Mitchel of Muhlenberg.

F&M returns to action on Oct. 3 at Mary Washington for the ITA Tournament.
