Men's Tennis Falls To No. 18 Washington

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Washington College men's tennis team clinched a spot in the Centennial Conference (CC) playoffs with a 7-2 win over Franklin & Marshall on Sunday afternoon.

The Shoremen (13-1, 6-1 CC), ranked 18th in the Atlantic South region, opened the day with an 8-1 win at Muhlenberg before claiming all three doubles and four singles matches to earn a pair of CC victories on the day.

Matthew Barker and Paul Salierno picked up wins for the Diplomats (4-5, 2-4 CC). Barker defeated Michal Switala in three sets by scores of 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, while Salierno was an 8-5 winner over Timothy Parks.

Brett Joseph dropped a close decision at No. 3 singles, falling in three sets to Andrew Laux (6-2, 2-6, 7-5). Armen Vartan and Joseph fought hard at No. 1 doubles, but fell 8-5.

F&M returns to action tomorrow at Muhlenberg. Match time is 4 p.m.
