Michaelis Fourth, Crawley Seventh at NCAA Championships
DELAWARE, Ohio -- Franklin & Marshall sophomores Nils Michaelis (Lancaster Catholic) and Sheena Crawley (Coatesville) earned All-America honors with a fourth and seventh place finish at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Outdoor Championships at Ohio Wesleyan Saturday.
Michaelis clocked a 14.510 in the 110 hurdles, just thousands of second behind Nebraska Weseylan's Kevin Janata (14.507), to finish fourth. Michaelis' kick in the final 20 meters separated himself from Washington's Tyler Jackson (14.57) and Utica's Joe Pruckno (14.64).
Michaelis becomes the first men's All-American at Franklin & Marshall since Frank McCartney in 1998.
Crawley picked up her second All-America honors in as many years with a 4:29.46 in the 1,500. Crawley stayed in the back of the pack for the first 700 meters before her 800 meter kick moved her up four spots. She edged Ithaca's Kate Leugers (4:30.97).
Crawley is just the second Diplomat to earn multiple All-America honors joining Amanda Shaw who won three from 1985-1987. Jamie Kendig (1994) was the last F&M track student-athlete to earn All-America honors before Crawley's award last season.
