American Blanks F&M
Jan 31, 2009
LANCASTER, Pa. – American University owned all ten weight-classes to remain unbeaten in Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA). The Eagles (9-4, 4-0 EIWA) pasted a 40-0 win on Franklin & Marshall. The loss marks the second time the Diplomats (4-10, 0-7 EIWA) have been kept off the scoreboard this season.
The Diplomats were previously blanked by Penn in an EIWA match.
American recorded decisions in each of the final five bouts. The heavyweights closed the afternoon with the most spirited match of the day. The score was knotted at 3-3 with American’s Quniton Pruett holding 1:03 of advantage time. Nico Somers worked in a double, but was unable to score off of it over the final 25 seconds.
At 174-pounds, AU’s #3 Mike Cannon (21-0) remained undefeated with a 10-3 decision of Justin Herbert.
F&M spotted the Birds six points with a forfeit at 125 pounds. One minute and nine seconds later, Jasen Borschoff doubled the lead with the only pin of the afternoon. It came at Matt Murray’s expense. Matthew Mariarcher kept the momentum going finishing a 21-6 tech fall with two seconds left in the second period. Mariarcher recorded seven takedowns and five back points en route to the win.
#11 Kyle Borshoff picked up four team points with a 13-4 major of Al Gianforti, followed by Patrick Graham’s rare four-point tech fall of Matt Gittleman. Graham recorded 12 takedowns and an escape for the 25-10 win.
The Diplomats return to action next Friday at Gettysburg.
