Franklin & Marshall’s wrestlers will take a break from dual meets for back-to-back weekends of tournament action. The Diplomats are set for Sunday’s competition at the Shorty Hitchcock Memorial Classic at Millersville University. Next Saturday, they will head to Grantham, Pa. for the Messiah Open.
The full roster of Diplomats have competed in two tournaments so far this season, while 174-pounder, Matt Fullowan, competed in the Mat Town Open back in November. F&M placed five wrestlers on the medal stand in tournaments this season and have produced one gold medalist, Jake Bucha, who won the Navy Classic.
Bucha (133), with a record of 13-1, picked up his 60th career win last week, and now ranks 17th in career victories at F&M. In addition to his win at Navy, Bucha finished second at the Wilkes Open this season. He suffered his only setback of the year in the finals. He has been on the stand at the end of five tournaments in his career, three times at the Navy Classic.
Colin Ely (197) earned a bronze at the Wilkes Open. It was the first tournament placing of the junior’s career. He is 10-3 on the season and needs a single win this weekend to match his career-high for wins.
Fullowan (174) is 9-8 on the year and has done his best wrestling in tournaments. He placed second at both the Mat Town and Wilkes Opens.
