Rogers Announces First Eight Recruits

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall College W. Roy Phillips ’34 Wrestling Coach, Mike Rogers, announced his first recruits on Thursday. The first-year coach has eight wrestlers who have paid deposits to F&M.

“We have some wrestlers with outstanding credentials coming into the room next year,” said Rogers. “I believe these guys have the ability to really get the ball rolling for this program.”

The class includes five National Prep Qualifiers, four were placewinners, one two-time state champion and a four-time state placer. The additional wrestlers, all early decision applicants, will bring the room up to 20 men.

The class features two projected 125 pounders, a weight class F&M has forfeited for the better part of the last four years.   David Hershberger a four-time Delaware State Placewinner from Smyrna and Emmanuel Arthur, a two-time All-Friends Select League choice from Westtown School (Pa.) will battle for the spot.

The Diplomats also have wrestlers coming in to replace the senior class. Rick Durso, a three-time National Prep placer from Malvern Prep is expected to slide into the 133-pound spot that will be vacated when Jake Bucha graduates after this season.  Austin Glessner, who went undefeated as a senior at St. Andrew’s (Del.) is projected to wrestle 165, which will be vacant following Anthony Bongarzone’s graduation.

Alex Henry, a native of Texas holds Episcopal’s (Va.) records for the most career wins with 116; the most career pins with 73; the most single season wins with 37; and the most career IAC titles with three. He also took fourth place at the Beast of the East this season. Henry will wrestle heavyweight at F&M, a spot that will open with the departure of Daniel Canfield.

Paul Alessandrini will join the Diplomats at 184. The product of the CHSAA powerhouse, St. Anthony’s, brings two state championships to Lancaster. Isaiah Cromwell (St. Benedict’s – N.J.) will bring over 100 wins and a seventh place finish at Prep Nationals to the 197-pound weight class.

Robert Ruiz, who went 28-4 at the Salisbury School (Conn.) as a senior, placed seventh at the National Prep Championships. He is expected to wrestle 141 at F&M.

All eight of the wrestlers applied early decision.
