F&M Places Four at Navy Classic
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Four Franklin & Marshall wrestlers placed in the top six of their respective weight classes to lead the Diplomats at the Navy Classic on Saturday in Annapolis, Md. Matt Latessa and Alex Henry secured fifth-place finishes, while Colin Ely and Richard Durso each took sixth.
After falling to Navy's James Maxwell by a 12-9 decision in the opening round, Latessa took down George Mason's Derek Dwyer at 184 pounds by major decision, 11-1. He later defeated Coriston Smith of George Mason by a 9-3 decision in the fifth-place bout.
At 285, Henry rebounded from a pair of defeats with a pinning of George Mason's Hunter Manspile in 3:38 to nab fifth.
Ely lost a tough 6-3 decision to West Virginia's Mac Mancuso at 197 pounds in his first match of the day, but regrouped with a pair of victories to reach the fifth-place match. Ely pinned George Mason's Alexander Stanley in 1:29 and blanked Bucknell's Tyler Lyster with a 6-0 decision, before falling to Benjamin Hatef of Navy in the battle for fifth.
At 141 pounds, Durso edged Navy's Alex Johnson, 8-6, in the opening round, before dropping a trio of narrow decisions to secure sixth.
Eric Norgard and Dave Pucci also posted wins for F&M in the backdraw of the 157-pound bracket. Norgard outlasted Navy's Zach White by decision, 6-4, while Pucci defeated Bucknell's Doug Kellermeyer by a 8-5 decision.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday, Nov. 26 at the Mat-Town Open hosted by Lock Haven.
