Bauer and Holt lead Diplomats
LANCASTER -- Allison Bauer and Beth Holt each scored 17 points to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 53-48 win over Haverford Wednesday in a Centennial Conference (CC) game. It's the second-straight win for the Diplomats (7-4 overall, 3-3 CC) while the Fords (3-6, 1-5) dropped their third consecutive contest.
Bauer, who's 17 points was a career-high, knocked in 14 points in the first half, which helped give F&M a 30-26 lead at the break.
Holt added nine in the opening half, which saw the score tied five times and seven lead changes.
The Fords used an 11-3 run early in the second, highlighted by Nina Voith's seven points, to take a 39-33 lead with 14:12 left in the game.
The Diplomats rallied back to take the lead for good when Alexa Barbush (10 points) sank a free throw to convert a three-point play which gave F&M a 40-39 lead with 10:27 left.
A pair of free throws by Victoria Sobocinski, who scored a team-high 16, put the Fords within one point, 49-48, before Holt sank four free throws in the final 20 seconds to seal the win for the Diplomats.
Voith netted 14 points for Haverford while Dominique Meeks grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
F&M was led in rebounds by Holt, Barbush and Allison Menna, who all pulled down seven boards.
The Diplomats return to the court on Saturday in double-header
with Swarthmore. The women tip-off at 1 p.m. and men follow
at 3 p.m.
