Red Hawks Soar Over Diplomats

Arlington, Va. - Montclair State finished the game on a 20-9 run as the Red Hawks defeated Franklin & Marshall 61-49 in the first game of the Marymount College Holiday Classic.  The loss marks F&M's fourth straight as the Diplomats fall to 5-4. Montclair State improved to 7-4.

The Diplomats led by as much as six points on two Amy Chabitnoy free throws with 14:11 left in the contest.  Montclair State responded on a 7-0 run to lead 32-31 for the first time since mid-way through the first period.  The next five minutes had five lead changes and four ties before the Red Hawks took a 41-40 lead on a Jamilee Pflug trey with 5:44 remaining. They closed out the game on 20-9 run to secure the victory.

F&M took a 14-12 lead on an Allison Bauer layup mid-way through the first half and led most the game. The Diplomats went up by five points with 8:10 left in the first and took a 23-20 lead into the half.

Chabitnoy scored four points as F&M opened the second half on an 8-5 run to lead 31-25 before the Red Hawks mounted their comeback.

Megan Pauley scored nine points and Alison Menna dropped in eight on 4-for-7 shooting. Menna also pulled down seven boards. Alexa Barbush and Beth Holt each scored six for the Diplomats.

Kisandra Ayanbeku and Catherine Critino each scored 15 for the Red Hawks. Jamie Erickinson added 13 and Pflug scored 12 points.

The Diplomats held a 35-32 advantage on the boards, but committed 17 turnovers to the Red Hawks' 15 resulting in 22 Montclair State points.

Franklin & Marshall returns to the court January 3rd when Diplomats play in the second round of Marymount Holiday Classic. Opponent and game time have yet to be determined.
