Garnet Slip By Diplomats

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Three players scored in double-figures leading Swarthmore to a 55-43 victory over Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats dropped to 7-5 (3-4 CC) while the Garnet improved to 5-7 (2-5 CC).

Trailing 21-20 at halftime, Swarthmore put together a 21-4 run, spanning almost ten minutes, to take a 49-32 lead early in the second period. Eliza Polli scored 11 of her team-high 14 points in the run including three from downtown. The Diplomats came within 10 points on a jumper by Megan Pauley with 3:01 remaining, but were unable to close the gap.

In the first half, there were seven lead changes as both team battled for an edge. F&M prevailed with one second remaining on a Pauley jumper to take a 21-20 lead into the locker room.

Beth Holt scored a game-high 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field and 4-for-8 from behind the arc. Pauley also scored in double-figures adding 11 points. She shot 5-for-17 from the field and pulled down six rebounds. Allison Bauer added seven points off the bench.

Ceylan Bodur matched Polli with 14 points for the Garnet. Kathryn Stockbower scored 12 points and collected 18 rebounds for a double-double.

Swarthmore held a 44-33 advantage on the boards, including 15 on the offensive side, resulting in 19-second chance points.

Franklin & Marshall returns to the court on Tuesday when the Diplomats host Washington (Md.) at 6:00 p.m.
