Barbush Seals Victory Over Bears

LANCASTER, Pa. - Alexa Barbush's eighth and final steal and ensuing free throws clinched a 65-60 win for Franklin & Marshall over Ursinus Thursday evening. Barbush drained both shots with 25 seconds remaining. The Diplomats improved to 5-0 (2-0 CC), the best start for F&M since the 1993-94 team opened at 9-0.

Megan Pauley's jumper with 42 seconds remaining put the Diplomats up three points before Barbush sealed the victory with a steal and two made free throws. Barbush scored nine of her career high 17 in second half, scoring 13 points from the line.

In addition to Barbush F&M had two other players scoring in double figures. Beth Holt scored 18 on 5-for-11 shooting from the floor and 3-for-5 from behind the line. Megan Pauley score 15 points on a 6-for-11 night.

F&M led the entire second half, but Ursinus (3-2, 1-2 CC) closed a 15-point deficit early in the period. The Bears went on a 23-11 run spanning the first 11 minutes of the half making the score 48-45 in favor of F&M. A free throw by Kristy George put the Bears within one with 1:10 showing on the clock.

The first half started off with four lead changes and five ties before F&M pulled away on 15-1 run, putting the Diplomats up 33-18 with 2:03 left.  Laura Krieger hit two foul shots for Ursinus making the score 33-20 at the half.

Carolyn Konstanzer scored a game-high 21 points for Ursinus. Konstnzer was 10-for-16 from the field and 1-for-3 at the line. Lindsay Teuber added 10 for the Bears.

The Diplomats shot 77 percent from the line (23-for-30) while the Bears managed just 57 percent (12-for-23).

Both teams pulled down 34 rebounds with Alison Menna and Barbush collecting seven each.

Franklin & Marshall returns to court on December 5th when the Diplomats travel to McDaniel with a double-header against the Green Terror. The women tip-off at 1:00 pm followed by the men at 3:00 pm.
