Diplomats Rally to Defeat Shorewomen

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Megan Pauley's free throw with 3.4 seconds remaining lifted Franklin & Marshall to 54-53 come-from-behind victory over Washington (Md.) in the Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball opener for both teams. F&M trailed by as many 15 points in the second, but ended the game on a 12-2 run to improve to 3-0 (1-0 CC). The Shorewomen (0-3, 0-1 CC) remain winless.

The Shorewomen led 51-42 with just over five minutes to play before the Diplomats' defense stepped up. F&M caused 11 turnovers and shutdown Washington from the floor the remainder of the game. Pauley tied the game on lay-up with 52 seconds left and then gave F&M a 53-51 lead on a pair free throws with 31 seconds left.

Washington tied it back up on a pair of free throws with 15 seconds remaining, but Pauley was fouled with three seconds on the clock. She made the first and missed and the second of her shots, but the Shorewomen were unable to get another shot off.

Pauley scored seven of her game-high 28 points in the Diplomats' decisive run. She went 9-for-21 from the floor and 10-for-12 from the line. Beth Holt and Alexa Barbush added eight points each. Allison Bauer was 3-for-8, adding seven points for F&M. Colleen Bott pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Diplomats trailed 24-18 at the half having shot 8-for-28 from the field. F&M aided its own cuase limiting the Shorewomen to 23% shooting in the period.  

Jane O'Donnell led the way for the Shorewomen scoring 14 points. Erin Kile and Sally O'Donnell add 12 and 11 for Washington.

Franklin & Marshall returns to court on Sunday, November 29 th when the Diplomats host Susquehanna.
