LANCASTER, Pa. – First-year Head Coach Kirsten Richter is set for the upcoming 2010-2011 Franklin & Marshall women's basketball season. It is a season that marks a new beginning in her life and a new beginning for the Diplomats' program.

For Richter, a 2003 graduate of F&M, it is her first time running a collegiate basketball program.  For the returning Diplomats, it's a chance to rebuild the young squad in their new mentor's image.

The Diplomats return three seniors, three juniors and four sophomores. They also add five freshmen.

Having ten players returning should help the transition process.

"Now that we have been practicing for about four weeks, we can really see the chemistry on the floor coming together and our execution is really coming along, " notes Richter.

Last year's leading scorer, forward Megan Pauley returns. The junior co-captain started all 25 games, averaging 11.2 points per contest.  Fellow co-captain Alison Menna will team up with Amy Chabitnoy to anchor the team in the post. Menna averaged almost four points per game and pulled down 5.3 rebounds a year ago. Chabitnoy contributed 4.7 points and 4.0 rebounds a game.

The Diplomats will have to play without the services of three-year starter, Beth Holt, for the first semester.

Returning at guard are sophomore Alexa Barbush and junior Allison Bauer.  Barbush dropped 9.8 ppg and collected 4.1 rpg her freshmen campaign.  Bauer played in all 25 games last season, making five starts. She scored in double-figures five times and averaged six points a game.

Sophomores Colleen Bott and Elizabeth Snyder will also see time on the wing. Bott saw action in 24 games last year, averaging four points and four boards a game. Snyder played in 22 contests, scoring 56 points with 41 rebounds.

Emily Johnson and Tracy Hahn should see time in the post this season.

The Diplomats bring in three freshmen at the guard position, Shea Costantino, Hannah Metheny and Stephanie Bartner. Two players will play the forward spot, Kristina McCarthy and Emma Lisle.

"We have a great group of newcomers, Emma Lisle and Kristina McCarthy in the post and Shea Costantino on the perimeter will contribute sooner rather than later this season," Richter says of her freshmen. "All have had an impact in practice and I expect to see that carry over to our games."

Costantino was a three-year starter at Bernards (N.J.), earning varsity letters in three sports. Lisle is a first team all-league selection from Green Mountain Union (Vt.) and McCarthy averaged nine points, six rebounds and four blocks per game her senior year at Lauralton (Conn.).

Franklin & Marshall kicks off the 2010-11 season tomorrow evening when the Diplomats travel to Susquehanna for a 7:00 p.m. tip off.  F&M returns home this weekend for the annual Rotary Extravaganza-Terry Greene Memorial Tournament. The Diplomats will host cross-county rival Elizabethtown at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.  Tournament information can be found by clicking here.

All home basketball games will be broadcasted live for free on Stretch Internet, F&M's broadband partner on the web.
