Team Effort

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Five players scored in double figures to lead Franklin & Marshall to an 80-66 win over Swarthmore in a Centennial Conference game Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats improved to 12-11 overall, 10-8 CC while the Garnet fell to 13-10, 9-9.

Franklin & Marshall found itself in an early 8-3 hole before answering with a 23-6 scoring run to lead 26-14 with 10 minutes left in the first half. Swarthmore chipped away at lead to get within seven, 41-34, with eight seconds left. Elizabeth Snyder drilled a three at the buzzer to send the Diplomats into the break with a 44-34 lead.

The Garnet made it a six-point game, 50-44, early in the second half before treys from Beth Holt and Allison Bauer sandwiched a Swarthmore score to keep the Diplomats up by 10, 56-46. Holt's three with 9:46 left in the game put F&M ahead 64-53 before Swarthmore scored six straight to get within five. Megan Pauley scored on consecutive layups, and Alexa Barbush netted four straight points, to give F&M a 72-62 lead with 4:05 remaining in the game. Holt converted on four trips to line in the final three minutes to ice the win for the Diplomats.

It was the first time this season that F&M had five players reach double figures. Holt and Barbush shared a team-high 17 points. Holt added seven rebounds with six assists. Pauley pumped in 16 while Bauer and Snyder each recorded 12 points. Alison Menna tied Holt with a team-high seven rebounds.

Madeline Ross led the Garnet with a game-high 29 points and Katie Lytle added 12.

The Diplomats return to Mayser Center Wednesday in a Centennial Conference game against Johns Hopkins at 6 p.m.
