Mules End Diplomats' Season
BALTIMORE, Md. – Franklin & Marshall women's basketball season came to an end on Friday evening with a 51-47 loss to Muhlenberg in the Centennial Conference Semifinals. The Diplomats finished the season 18-8, 15-5 CC while the Mules (22-5, 15-5 CC) advance to the final on Saturday against Johns Hopkins.
F&M jumped out to an early 6-0 advantage 16:16 into the contest, however the Mules responded by going on a 17-4 run over the next eight minutes to take a 17-10 lead. The Diplomats answered by converting on their next two trips down the court to pull within three, 17-14, with just over seven minutes to play.
After a missed jumper by Muhlenberg's Alita Zabrecky, Elizabeth Snyder grabbed the defensive rebound to set up teammate Megan Pauley for a jumper to bring F&M within one, 17-16, with 6:34 left in the half. The Mules finished the half by going on a 14-2 run to take a 32-21 lead into the break.
Muhlenberg's largest lead of the half came at the 18:26 mark when it went up by 11, 34-23. The Diplomats hung around and chipped away at the Mules lead over the next seven minutes. With 11:13 left on the clock, Alexa Barbush hit a pair of free-throws to bring F&M within two, 37-35, the closest it would come to the Muhlenberg lead.
The Diplomats made it a one-possession game at the 6:31 mark after Pauley drained a jumper. Muhlenberg's Erin Laney sank two from the charity stripe to make it a two-possession game, 46-41 at 5:26. Through the remainder of the contest Muhlenberg led by as many as nine en route to its victory.
Zabrecky paced the Mules with a game-high 21 points while adding 10 rebounds. Alexandra Chili recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Laney grabbed a game-high 12 boards.
