Diplomats Outlast Eagles

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – A career-high 29 points from Alexa Barbush led Franklin & Marshall to a 69-59 victory over Juniata on Tuesday night in non-conference action.  The Diplomats improve to 4-5 with the win, while the Eagles fall to 6-3.

Barbush scored 19 points in the second half and shot 12-of-18 from the floor on the night. The senior guard chipped in on the defensive end as well, recording a season-high six steals.

Leading 10-7 in the first half, F&M caught fire, rattling off a 19-2 run to take the 29-9 lead with 7:30 remaining. Juniata answered with a 15-4 run of its own, to cut the deficit to nine at 33-24 heading into halftime.

The Diplomats did not hold onto their nine-point lead for long as the Eagles continued their comeback in the second half with a 16-6 run to take the 40-39 lead with 12:44 remaining. Juniata pushed the lead to five at 46-41, before F&M stormed back to tie the game at 48-48 with 8:08 left on the clock.

On the ensuing possession, Barbush stepped in front of a pass for the steal and found Colleen Bott on the break for a layup, giving the Diplomats the 50-48 advantage.

F&M held onto the lead until the Eagles jumped back out in front 57-56 with 2:00 remaining in the game. After the basket, the Diplomats quickly pushed the ball up the court and took the lead back when Sam Plunkett landed a jumper in the paint.

Strong free-throw shooting down the stretch, paced a 10-2 run by F&M to close out the game and preserve the 10-point victory.

Elizabeth Snyder joined Barbush in double-figure scoring with 12 points on 3-of-7 shooting. Emma Lisle was strong in the paint, pulling down 15 rebounds, including 12 on the defensive end.

The Diplomats were dominant under the basket, outrebounding the Eagles 46-25 on the game. F&M shot well from the floor with a 48.3 percent effort, while Juniata shot 36.7 percent.

The Diplomats return to the court on Wednesday, Jan. 2nd to take on Lebanon Valley. The contest is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
