LANCASTER, Pa. – Late threes helped to lift McDaniel 67-64 over Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball on Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats dropped to 4-4, 2-4 CC while the Green Terror improved to 4-5, 2-3 CC.
The Diplomats held a slight advantage going into the fourth at 48-46. A layup from Kristin Hamill and free throws from Cat Weber extended the lead 52-48. McDaniel kept fighting and with the game tied at 56-56 with two minutes left to play, back-to-back threes from McDaniel, along with 5-for-5 shooting from the free throw line helped the Green Terror take the contest 67-64.
After a tightly contested few opening minutes of play, back-to-back threes from Haley Pilone helped F&M to a 15-10 lead after the first quarter.
Despite two more threes from Pilone early in the second quarter, McDaniel took a one-point lead with 6:24 left, but two quick free throws from Erica Brown gave F&M the one-point advantage at 25-24. Strong paint play from Weber helped the Diplomats keep the slight edge, 36-35, going into the break.
F&M came out strong to start the third quarter, going on an 8-2 run to extend the lead 44-37 off a jump shot from Brown at the 7:16 mark. Sarosha Parsons came down with four rebounds in the third to help the Diplomats maintain the four-point lead going into the fourth.
Pilone led all scorers with 25 points, going 6-for-10 from behind the arc. Hamill finished with a double-double, tallying 12 points and 10 rebounds. Brown finished the day with 15 points, six rebounds, and two steals.
The Diplomats return to action on Dec. 30, traveling to Roanoke for a two-day tournament, taking on the host at 2:00 p.m.
