Diplomats Open Rowing Season
ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall's rowers opened their fall season on the Lehigh River racing against Lehigh University, Loyola College (Md.) and Iona College. The race format consisted of each team racing two times over a 2,200-meter distance for total elapsed time.
The F&M women's varsity (18.10) finished third behind Lehigh (17.30) and Loyola (17.43) and 10 seconds ahead of Iona College. The second varsity women finished second (19.16) behind first place Lehigh (18.26).
On the men's side, the first boat finished third with a time of 15.34 behind winners Iona (15.07 ) and second place Lehigh A (15.22). The Diplomats defeated Lehigh B and (15.36) and Loyola (15.59) by more than two seconds.
F&M's second varsity on the men's side finished second (16.58) behind Lehigh (16.41) and defeated Lehigh B was third (17.46).
The men's novice four finished fourth of four (20.42) behind Iona (18.25), Lehigh A (18.26) and Lehigh B (19.48)
F&M crews return to the water next weekend to compete at the Navy Day Regatta in Philadelphia.
