F&M Competes at Neuweiler Plate

LEWISBERRY, Pa.- Franklin & Marshall women's rowing hosted the 2012 Neuweiler Plate Regatta today at Gifford Pinchot State Park. This is the fourth year the Diplomats have participated in the regatta and the second consecutive year that F&M has hosted it. This year's races involved nine teams, Lafayette, Lehigh, Penn State, Mercyhurst, Philadelphia University, Robert Morris University, Rutgers-Camden and Villanova.

The Diplomats boated two women's crews in the Women's Varsity 8+ event. The first Varsity 8+ of Danielle Tunkel-cox, Molly Hack-stroke, Maggie Provencher , Seymone Killins , Allison Ercolano, Katie Winfree, Haley Post, Debra Gladwin, Tory Trovillion advanced to the final by defeating Robert Morris and Lafayette in their heat. The six-boat final proved to be an exciting race with only 6.5 seconds separating the second and fifth place boats. F&M finished the 2000m course in a close fourth with a time of 6:57.34. Mercyhurst won the event in a time of 6:43.98.

The Women's 2nd Varsity 8+ Kris Dowd-cox, Jennie Silver-stroke, Abby Benkert, Kate Keane, Emma Cedar, Mackenzie Dix, Jessica Bechhofer, Julia Whyte, Maayan Shalvi placed fourth in their heat, giving them a berth in the Petitie Final against Robert Morris. The Diplomats rowed the Petite uncontested, as RMU scratched from the race.

F&M will be back in action on Saturday when the Diplomats compete against Marietta College. Race time is set for 9:00 am.
